New Play Development Unit
Conceived by Literary Manager Ed Napier, Half Moon Theatre’s New Play Development Unit’s chief endeavor is to develop plays that Half Moon Theatre will produce as world premieres. New American plays are essential to the life of theatre and we’ve started the Millbrook reading series to bring these new plays to our audience.
Our inaugural reading was of Obie award winning Kathryn Grody’s play, “Falling Apart … Together”, which is a sequel to her play, “A Mom’s Life” which was produced at the Public in 1995 and performed to critical acclaim all over the country.
New Play Development Unit in Millbrook: 2010-2011 Season
Dec. 3 – 4, 2010: Reach for the Sky by Joe Cosentino
A wedding between an Italian American and a WASP results in hysterical chaos. Don’t miss this laugh out loud farce, set in 1970’s Garfield, New Jersey.
Feb. 11 – 12, 2011: Good Deeds for a Weary World by Gary Sunshine
Pammy is a recent paraplegic. Mikey tirelessly cares for her at the expense of his job. Jessica is a lawyer so good at controlling her emotions she can no longer feel. And Gordon is pathologically kind. These two couples have a freak run-in with two young “squatters” leading all three couples to revelations that change their lives forever in this powerful new drama.
June 3 – 4, 2011: First Inaugural Ten Minute Play Festival.
Join us for Half Moon’s first Ten minute Play Festival introducing new plays by celebrated NYC and Hudson Valley playwrights. We are thrilled and proud that these playwrights have written pieces just for this festival. It’s a great way to experience a variety of theatrical styles. The festival features Half Moon Theatre company members who will delight audiences with hilarious appeal, poignant moments and the excitement of the unexpected.
We hope you’ll join us in the idyllic village of Millbrook where you can stroll the village browsing in shops, have a delicious dinner at one of the village’s excellent restaurants and then see a reading of a new American play!
